Community hall for earthquake families

KATHMANDU, May 15: At a time when people from all walks of life are making genuine efforts to provide food and shelter to earthquake victims, the monks of the White Gumba at Soyambunath have been extending their assistance since the huge tremor of April 25.

Besides offering relief materials to the earthquake displaced, the Gumba or monastery has decided to build a community hail for earthquake affected locals in the Ramkot area. The hall upon completion will become a home for more than 150 people.

According to Jigme Rigzin, a monk at the White Gumba, the community hall will be a perfect shelter for the displaced earthquake victims."We will try to accommodate as many people as possible. There are many who have been displaced and we are doing the best we can," said Rigzin.

Michelle Yeoh, a Hollywood actor, has been invited to inaugurate the community ahlll on May 17. The inauguration program titled 'Live to Love' is scheduled to begin from 10 am.
