KATHMANDU, Jan 13: A meeting of the government secretaries on Tuesday formed a four-member committee headed by Home Secretary Dr Govind Prasad Kusum to review public holidays, a government secretary said.
The move was taken after indigenous groups started demanding more than one day of public holiday in their meeting to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. The prime minister had then asked Chief Secretary Dr Bhoj Raj Ghimire to seek solution to the demands.

The government has already declared public holidays for the festivals of indigenous and marginalized groups. However, the groups have been demanding that there be more than one day of public holiday during their festivals.
The committee that has been asked to submit its report as early as possible.
In the meantime, the government secretaries also discussed on adopting two-day public holiday during weekends. Government offices in Kathmandu Valley used to enjoy two-day break during weekends until the government of King Gyanendra scrapped the holiday in March 2005.
