DUNAI, Jan 17: Never had Bimal Bharati of Dunai-1in Dolpa district, who was mentally ill for five years, imagined that he would ever regain his sanity for his family lacked adequate financial resources to avail him treatment. 

But thanks to the financial support provided by Civic Society in Dolpa, the 29-year-old mentally challenged boy received around seven months long treatment at a Kathmandu-based rehabilitation centre operated by the Richmond Fellowship Nepal and has returned to his locality as a healthy person - mentally, physically and socially. 

The Society called for financial contributions from all quarters and collected the amount- more than Rs 155,000, so that it could make a difference in the life of Bimal, originally from Chandannath VDC-6 in Jumla district, who was living a life of a homeless tramp until seven months ago due to his illness. 

Society Chair Sher Bahadur Budha shared that Bimal is still under medication and has to take medicine for next six months. 

Bimal's mother Krishna Devi Bharati recalled that Bimal, eldest of her two children, lived through a harrowing time since he lost his sanity in a physical fight with other boys in Khalanga in Jumla district. 

"He would roam around the alleys in the district headquarters in filthy condition. He would not recognize anyone and remember any past events," recollected Krishna Devi, adding, "He lost sanity to the extent that he would not differentiate between food and feces." 

Upon regaining mental and physical wholeness, he is now leading a new life as Bimal himself confided that he could now recognize people and can conduct normal activities. 

Bimal, who works in a local community users group lately, exudes his sheer happiness with RSS, "I can lately talk and laugh as any normal person. I can recognize persons and things since my memory power is restored yet again. So is my confidence level." 

Extending his gratitude towards the Society's humanitarian support, Bimal concluded that he has got a new hope for life and acknowledges that with the improved health, he could feel the joy of being hale and hearty.
