MPRF-N further said that Monday´s Supreme Court (SC) order related to voter registration that made citizenship card mandatory for voter registration was an attempt to further sideline the marginalized communities and those who have not got citizenships.
The party accused the government of not being serious toward their concerns. "We submitted 13 point demands to the government three months ago but the government has not shown any concern over it," the press release claimed.
MPRF-N has further accused Election Commission (EC) of being biased towards Madhesi communities. "EC has intentionally left 5.5 Million voters including Madhesi and marginalized among other voters to register," the press statement further said.
SP also expresses reservations over SC verdict
Meanwhile, Sadbhavana Party (SP) has expressed reservations over the Supreme Court (SC) order that made citizenship certificate compulsory for voter registration.
"Interim order issued by SC on Monday is an attempt to attack the Clause 19 of electoral roll act 2063 BS," said a press release issued by the party on Tuesday.
The Supreme Court (SC) had issued an interim order on Monday against the move by the Election Commission (EC) to register voters without citizenship certificates. The SP claimed that there was an agreement on May 26 between his party and the government to register voters´ name on the basis of other official documents besides citizenship.
