KATHMANDU, Sept 24: A team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) in Kathmandu has been deployed to investigate the embezzlement of funds of Suryadarshan Savings and Credit Cooperative. The CIB sent two officers to Pokhara to assist in the ongoing investigation.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohan Kuamr Thapa of the District Police Office in Kaski confirmed to Republica that the CIB team is expected to arrive by Tuesday evening.

With this, the CIB will assist the Kaski Police in investigating the embezzlement of savings funds from Suryadarshan Cooperative, with former DIG and the then-member of the Gorkha Media's board of directors, Chhabilal Joshi, currently in custody.

The District Government Attorney’s Office in Kaski is currently taking Joshi's testimony.

SP Thapa said that recording the statements may take two to three days.

On Monday, the Kaski District Court granted permission to keep Joshi in custody for five days for further investigation. Joshi was arrested in Kathmandu on Sunday and taken to Kaski the same night.

On Sunday, the Parliamentary Special Investigation Committee, formed to investigate embezzlement of cooperative frauds, had recommended action against Joshi, the then-director of Gorkha Media, along with others, for cooperative savings fraud. Following the Home Ministry's order for the immediate implementation of the committee’s recommendation, Joshi was arrested.
