The CIAA sent a letter instructing the petroleum monopolist to furnish the details sought, suspecting that there was collusion between NOC officials and dealers just before announcement of the new price hike for petroleum products. [break]
A CIAA source said that it has received a tip-off about excessive distribution of petroleum products just a couple of hours before the spike in price.
According to the tip-off, NOC officials distributed thousands of liters more petrol than usual to dealers at the old price so that the additional supply could be sold at the hiked price.
"NOC officials are reportedly selling more petroleum products to dealers at the old price and unlawfully receiving benefit from the dealers after they sell at the hiked price," the source added.
CIAA Secretary Bhagwati Kafle said they will probe the matter seriously to find out whether NOC had supplied more petroleum products to dealers than normal just before the announcement of price hike. "We have asked NOC to furnish detailed records of the supply of petroleum products from 20 days earlier to the day of the price hike," he added.
