KATHMANDU, Sept 13: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case against 22 Nepal Electricity Authority officials including Director Arjun Kumar Chauhan at the Special Court (SC) on Friday on the charges of irregularities during procurement of transformers.

The CIAA produced the NEA officials at the Special court on Friday. However, due to lack of time, the interrogation could not take place, reads the SC statement. According to the court, the hearing of those officials will start on Sunday. [break]

The anti-graft body in its investigation found irregularities worth Rs 410 million in the procurement of transformers. CIAA had started investigations after the use of substandard transformers caused explosions and excessive power leakage.

A three-member probe committee formed earlier by NEA had found that around 1,275 transformers purchased from Hubei Sunlight Electric Co Ltd, China were of low quality. NEA´s tests in its own lab and other labs showed that the transformers had aluminum wires instead of copper wires.
