RATNANAGAR July 9:Chitwan, the district in Province 1, is on high alert following an escalating risk of natural disaster. The District Disaster Management Committee and the District Security Coordination Committee are jointly working to mitigate the risk of monsoon flood and landslide.
Disaster risk reduction (DRR) programmes have been implemented in the areas with possible risk of disaster with high priorities, as said by District Security Coordination Committee coordinator Chief District Officer Jitendra Basnet. The zones highly vulnerable to disaster have been divided into three clusters (an area west to the Narayani River, area east of the Rapti River and Madi area) for the effectiveness of the programmes (implemented).
The armed police force, civil police force, the Nepal Army personnel and a squad of the Disaster Management Training Centre have been given the responsibility of handling the DRR efforts.
