Chitwan district administration announces restricted areas amid protests

CHITWAN, Aug 26: The Chitwan administration has declared some parts of Bharatpur as restricted zone since 6 am today morning.


In a notice, the district administration office stated that the restrictions have been imposed as per the Local Administration Act 2028 keeping in mind the ongoing demonstrations in favor of television presenter Rabi Lamichhane and two others.

Chitwan District Court will record the statement of Lamichhane today. Lamichhane, Yubaraj Kandel and Ashmita Karki have been taken into custody for investigation in connection with the suicide of journalist Shalik Ram Pudasaini.


The administration has not allowed more than five persons to be assembled in one place.  Those who violate the instruction of the local administration will be punished, the notice said.


The administration stated that the demonstrations have been affecting the everyday administrative works and service delivery in Bharatpur and its surrounding areas. The restriction will be imposed until further notice, according to authorities.
