Chinese vice premier pledges support to Ayurved sector

KATHMANDU, Aug 16: Visiting Vice-Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Wang Yang, has promised full support from the Chinese government to the development and promotion of Ayurved in Nepal.

KATHMANDU, Aug 16: Visiting Vice-Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Wang Yang, has promised full support from the Chinese government to the development and promotion of Ayurved in Nepal. 


During his visit to the Kirtipur-based National Ayurveda Research and Training Center today, the Chinese Vice- Premier pledged to cooperate with Nepal to carry out further research in the sector of Ayurved.

Health Secretary Kiran Regmi said the government had planned to establish an Ayurved Hospital in every province in future, urging the Chinese side for help to this end. 

Though Nepal is rich in medicinal plants and herbs, lack of skills and knowledge about their proper use has deprived Nepalis of reaping maximum benefits, the Health Minister said, adding that the government was establishing herbs processing centre equipped with high technology and a digitalised library for the promotion of Ayurved. 


Centre Executive Director Dr Siddhartha Kumar Thakur apprised the delegation that conducting in-depth research in the Ayurved sector was the objective of the centre. 

The Government of China had constructed a building for the centre at a cost of Rs 680 million in 2009 and handed it to the Nepal Government in 2011. 


Furthermore, the centre received medical equipments worth Rs 240 million from the northern neighbour. 


Surgery, gynaecology, maternity, cancer treatment, acupuncture, radiology and pathology services are available in the centre. It is preparing to launch the other distinct Ayurveda services likes Panchakarma, Chharsutra Sewa, Kaumar Bhritya, Yoga, physiotherapy, x-ray, CT Scan and telemedicine facilities in near future .
