KATHMANDU, Dec 31: Central Children Welfare Board (CCWB) has urged all organizations working for children to provide care and support to all children irrespective of their caste and religious background. The CCWB has said that it will take stringent action against organizations found engaging in illegal activities or profiteering using children.

Speaking at the sixth annual day of The Light House Foundation Nepal (LHFN), CCWB Chairman Dilli Ram Giri said, “No shelter home making money by using children will be spared,” said he.

Giri said that the government should focus on uplifting the children who are vulnerable and are socially backward. “Physical infrastructures alone don't develop a country. Uplifting children from all communities is must for development of Nepal.” The LHFN is a home to more than 750 children, out of whom almost 500 girls are from Badi community and 250 from vulnerable economic background, orphans, and rescued girls.

The LHFN informed that it is opening a rescue center in Delhi, India soon to provide temporary shelters for rescued girls. According to CCWB data, there are around 600 organizations working in the sector of children. The CCWB has halted registration of new child care centers and orphanages after the earthquake of April 25.
