BIRATNAGAR, Oct 30: Minister for Information and Communication Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has said that discussion among the coalition partners on the appointment of chief minister on rotation basis between Nepali Congress and the CPN (Unified Socialist) in Province 1 is yet to be discussed.

Talking to media persons at Biratnagar Airport on Saturday, Minister Karki said that the issue of rotation or only one party for the post of Chief Minister in Province 1 is yet to be discussed among the ruling parties.

Karki clarified that the government will be formed in Province 1 as per the decision of the coalition. “In Province 1, a new government will be formed as per the decision of the coalition partners. However, the issue of half term is yet to be discussed,” he said.

Sources say the NC has been reluctant to give a vote of confidence to Unified Socialist leader Rajendra Rai until there is an agreement to allow an NC leader to be the Chief Minister of Province 1 for at least half a term.

Despite the decision of the coalition to form a new government led by Unified Socialist leader Rai, the NC has been deferring the province assembly meeting demanding that an NC leader be appointed the CM for the second half of the CM’s term. The next meeting of Province 1 assembly is scheduled for November 1.
