Chhetri covered the distance of 53km from Buddhanilkantha of Kathmandu to the Nuwakot Palace in 2 hours 24 minutes and 54 seconds.[break]
Raj Kumar Shrestha clocked 2 hours 29 minutes 05 seconds to finish second while Narayan Gopal Maharjan secured the third place with a timing of 2 hours 35 minutes 36 seconds.
The top three winners bagged a purse of Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
The race organized by Nuwakot District Sports Development Committee and supported by the Nepal Tourism Board was aimed at promoting tourism in Nuwakot, according to Nuwakot District Development Committee President Uttam Pathak.
Nepal Cycling Association provided technical assistance for the race while Speedway Cargo provided jerseys to the cyclists and donated computers to a local school of Nuwakot.
Rayamajhi wins Winter Golf
Nischaya Jung Rayamajhi won the title of Annual Winter Golf Tournament, jointly organized by Prabhu Finance Company Ltd and Army Officers Golf Club on Saturday.
Rayamajhi scored 39 points in the amateur golfing event to clinch the title while Gajendra Bahadur Limbu and Basant R Gurung emerged first and second runner-up respectively.[break]
Krishna NS Thapa scored 36 points to win the title of senior winner. Bhupendra Bahadur Thapa scored 32 points to become the runner-up of the senior category.
Ramesh K Bista shot eight over par to win the best gross award while Ramesh Gurung won the award for the longest-drive.
Likewise, Gaurav Shah received prize for the closest to the pin and Madan Rana shot two birdies and claimed the award for most birdies.
Chief of Army Staff Chhatra Man Singh Gurung gave away the awards to the winners of the tournament contested by 65 golfers.
Ashok Sherchan, CEO of Prabhu Finance, said that his company will continue the annual event.
Hosts in quarterfinal
Hosts St Xavier´s, Godawari booked quarterfinal berth in the 15th Father Moran Memorial Primary-level Football Tournament. St Xavier´s School defeated Ideal Model 1-0 on Saturday on their home ground at Godawari as Raj Kumar Tamang struck the only goal of the match.
Despite of the loss, Ideal Model also reached quarterfinal as runners-up in the group ´D´ of the tournament. Meanwhile, the match between the defending champion NAPF and Pushpanjali School ended in a 1-1 draw. Both the sides reached quarterfinal from Group ´A´ as winners and runners-up respectively.
Gothatar win FECA Cup
Gothatar School won the title of the Fifth FECA Cup Inter-school Boys´ Football Tournament on Saturday. Gothatar thrashed defending champions Kotdevi 2-1 in the final match played on the ground at Purano Sinamangal, Kathmandu. Niranjan Gautam and Sachin Paudel scored a goal each for the winners while Srijan Karki scored a consolation goal for Kotdevi.
Deelip Karki of Gothatar was adjudged man of the match and man of the tournament while Kotdevi´s Khil KC, who scored six goals during the tournament received award for the highest scorer. Winners received Rs 10,000 each. The tournament was organized by Fair Education Competitors Association (FECA).
Daffodil set final clash with Shridiwa
Daffodil School set up a final clash against Shridiwa School in girls´ basketball event of the 17th Eicher Gyan Carnival. Daffodil beat Prithvi 32-29 in the semifinal on Saturday while Shridiwa thrashed hosts Gyanodaya Bal Batika 29-20. Likewise, Galaxy and Wilson Academy booked berths in the boys´ basketball final.
Galaxy defeated Siddhartha Vanasthali 47-40 in the semifinal while Wilson eased past hosts Gayanodaya 70-37 to reach the final. Samakhushi English Boarding School (SEBS) and Deepjyoti will lock their horns in the junior boys´ volleyball event while Gurukul and Gyanodaya will contest for the title of boys´ football.
