The Chhath festival is marked with due reverence and strict rules. The devotees begin the festival by having pure food items popularly known as Aruwa-Aruwain among the devotees.On the second day of the festival, the devotees observe fasting and prepare rice pudding on a fresh earthen oven, and receive as prasad after offering to the God. Likewise, on the third day, the devotees offer Argha (curd) to the setting sun by reaching the shores of ponds and the festival would conclude on Saturday by after offering Argha to the rising sun.
With the beginning of the Chhath, the sale of bamboo products, banana and sweets has sharply increased in eastern Nepal.
Thekuwa, a dish prepared from floor, and Bhusuwa are taken as the major Prasad during the festival.Chhath is observed in Jhapa with much enthusiasm.
Preparations for the festival have been expedited in Mechi and Kankai river banks and pond shores for the same. In Bhadrapur, Chhath is marked along three km shore of the Mechi river.
