These days mobile phones with internet and email facilities are no longer just the tools of the high-powered business person, they are reaching into the pockets of students and youngsters alike.

The ICT Info Trade Fair -- a five-day information and technology exhibition - shows an example of changing mobile trends. Thousands of youths are flocking into stalls of leading mobile brands looking for mobile phones with latest 3G technology and WiFi system.

Mobile phone stalls at ICT Info Trade Fair are seeing a huge flow of customers interested to know more about newly introduced 3G system, WiFi service and CDMA phone sets among others.

The special discount offers and schemes launched by mobile dealers have added into the sales and popularity of mobile pones.

“We have been conducting this fair for the last three years. We are observing a drastic shift in consumer preference when it comes to mobile technology. Suman Shrestha, field representative of Neoteric Nepal -- the authorized seller of Nokia mobile phones for Nepal - said there has been a drastic change in mobile phone trends in recent years and more and more people are purchasing mobile phone sets with features such as dual SIM card, camera with higher mega pixels, touch screen, 3G service and internet technology.

“People today either like to go for mobile phones with all these features or purchase a simple one that are cheaper,” said Shrestha.

With the rapid change in technology, people tend to change their mobile phones every now and then and hence switch on to sets with affordable price having the newest technology, Shrestha added. He further added that Nokia X3 and C5 are some of the most sought after handsets in the five-day fair.

Traders of other leading mobile brands like Samsung and LG are also making the most of the event by displaying sets with innovative technology. Also in the race are the newly introduced mobile sets from India, France and China among others that are attracting a majority of students and youngsters by providing mobile phone technology at cheaper price.

“Mobile handsets in the range of Rs 3,000 and Rs 10,000 are the mostly demanded segment at the fair as these sets are loaded with most of the features,” said Sanjay Poudyal, senior executive at Pashupati Trade Link -- the authorized distributor of Karbonn mobiles for Nepal.
