NEW DELHI, Nov 27: Emphasising not to change the constitution, Indian Prime Minister Narnedra Modi in the Lok Sabha on Friday said if someone tries, it would be equal to committing suicide.

"No one can think of changing the Constitution. If they do, I believe it is like suicide", said Modi in the Parliament on a special discussion on Constitution to mark the 125th birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar.

"Government's only religion is India first, the only holy book the government follows is the Constitution of India," he added. "From political establishment to those in opposition, everyone quotes Babasaheb Ambedkar. Every school of thought stands by what he said. Such is his greatness."

He further went on and talked about his life.

"Dr Ambedkar suffered oppression in his life but when it came to drafting the country's future, he was not vindictive. Society does have its share of problems but people are born from the same society to weed out the bad things," he said.
