Central finishes with five golds in tennis

KATHMANDU, March 1: Central Region on Thursday finished with five of the six gold medals and continued its dominance in Lawn Tennis during the Sixth National Games. In the final day of the games, Central and Armed Police Force (APF) added a gold apiece.



The gold turned out to be first for APF in the lawn tennis.[break]



In the men´s doubles category, pair of Jitendra Pariyar and Shree Ram Thapa Magar of Central defeated Kumar Adhikari and Maheswor Tiwari´s pair of APF 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.



In men´s singles category, Nepal number one Adhikari overcame Pariyar 6-2, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. "I had failed to win gold in the Fifth National Games and the result in current edition has made me happy," Adhikari said adding, "The final was tough."



Adhikari has been in number one position since 2007 January and has won six out of seven meetings with Pariyar.



Despite losing the final, Pariyar was satisfied with his performance in final. "I picked injury in the fourth minute which resulted in poor show during the remaining time," said Pariyar.


Shooting



National record holders Sneha Rajya Laxmi Rana of Western Region and Tika Ram Shrestha of Eastern Region clinched shooting gold in 10 meter air rifle in women´s and men´s category respectively on Thursday during the Sixth National Games at Satdobato Shooting Range, Lalitpur.



Rana scored 481 points of the total 500 for the gold while Shrestha scored 665 points out of total 700. Phool Maya Kyapchhaki of Nepal Police Club (NPC) finished second with 473 points, while Asmita Rai of NPC finished third with 472 points in women´s category.



In men´s section Milan Gurung of Western finished second with 657 points and Hari Bahadur Thapa of NPC finished third with 649 points.



In women´s 10 meter air pistol, Krishna Thapa of Mid-western Region scored 446 points of the total 500 and clinched gold. Saraswoti Baniya of NPC scored 445 points for the second position and Sabita Basnet of NPC finished third with 430 points.



In men´s 10 meter air pistol, Badrudin Ansari of Mid-western clinched gold with 622 points out of total 700. Anil Thakuri of NPC scored 621 points for the second place and Asad Khan of Mid-western finished third with 616 points.
