KATHMANDU, Aug 23: A meeting of the Constitutional Council (CC) is taking place to recommend the name of Chief Justice for the Supreme Court and the Chief Commissioner of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Thursday.


The CC meeting is taking place to this end for the first time after the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee (PHSC) rejected the proposed Chief Justice Deepak Raj Joshee.


Even though the meeting was scheduled for last Wednesday, it was postponed after opposition leader Sher Bahadur Deuba traveled abroad for treatment.

The meeting has been scheduled for 4 pm today after Deuba returned home following treatment.


Judicial Council (JC) has already recommended Justices Om Prakash Mishra and Cholendra Shumsher Rana to the CC. The CC meeting today will pick one of them.


Similarly, incumbent Acting Chief Commissioner Nabin Kumar Ghimire, former Chief Secretary Lilamani Paudel, senior advocate Yubaraj Sangraula, former chief secretary Rajendra Kishor Chhetri are in the fray for the post of anti-graft body. The CC meeting today will recommend one them for the post.
