KATHMANDU, June 26: Dr. Shree Krishna Bhattarai, a justice at the Kathmandu District Court, has tendered his resignation from his position. Bhattarai cited his discomfort in working under Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki as the reason for his resignation, claiming that the Chief Justice himself has raised legal and ethical concerns.
Expressing his dissatisfaction with the judicial appointment process, Bhattarai alleged that individuals affiliated with political parties are being appointed to the Judicial Council. He further contended that the future of judges appears bleak after political figures were recruited into the Council through a non-transparent procedure.

Bhattarai also raised objections to the practice of political influence on the judiciary, asserting that individuals motivated by political allegiance hold office and work in the judicial system. He mentioned that he had previously filed a complaint with the Parliamentary Committee regarding Chief Justice Karki's appointment, but the committee was unable to exercise its discretion. Bhattarai criticized the legality of the parliamentary hearing committee itself and argued that if the committee had been fair, Karki would not have assumed the position of Chief Justice.
"In light of my belief that Chief Justice Karki is unsuitable for the role, it is uncomfortable for me to continue working under his leadership. I consider this to be an inappropriate situation. Without demonstrations and protests, no progress can be made. If the hearing committee had worked fairly, Karki would not have been appointed, based on the reasons I have presented," stated Bhattarai.
Bhattarai emphasized his commitment to future endeavors aimed at reforming and strengthening the judiciary.
