KATHMANDU, April 30: Supreme Court's senior most Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli assumed the office as the Acting Chief Justice on Sunday, following the suspension of Chief Justice Sushila Karki with the registration of impeachment motion against her at the Legislature-Parliament earlier on Sunday.

Assuming the office, Acting Chief Justice Parajuli termed the registration of an impeachment motion against the Chief Justice as a tragic incident in judiciary. He pledged to live up to his duty and responsibilities while remaining in the post and to his best to work impartially and efficiently and to stand in favour of truth.
The impeachment motion against Karki was registered as per Article 101 (b) of the Constitution, accusing her of interfering on the executive rights of the government and delivering verdicts by distorting facts in the appointment of Inspector General of Police, among others. RSS
