KATHMANDU, Oct 29: Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) is set to host the U-19 national cricket tournament in the capital from November with the view to pick players for the ICC U-19 World Cup to be held in Bangladesh next year.

Bangladesh will host the youth World Cup from 22 January to 14 February next year.Nepal secured its berth in the World Cup after clinching the title of the ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifiers held in Malaysia from October 15-22. Nepal had beat Ireland by three wickets to win the qualifiers.

CAN Acting General Secretary Uttam Karmacharya informed that the cricket governing body will hold the U-19 national tournament to select players from November 24 for a week.

Karmacharya also informed that regional selection event will be also held before the national tournament. CAN has failed to host selection tournaments for international event on number of occasions due to intern and external reasons. Along with that CAN had not organized selection event for the U-19 World Cup Qualifiers and ACC U-19 Premier League held in Malaysia recently.

Not only that, instead of organizing selection tournament, CAN had organized unofficial selection event earlier in October among 70 players, including 22 contracted players, from various regions, to select players for the two List A matches against Papua New Guinea in the second round of the ICC World Cricket League Championship slated for November 16 and 18 in the UAE. In its defense for not organizing the national event, CAN had pointed to unstable political scenario.

National team to leave for UAE on November 3

Nepali national cricket team will leave for the UAE on November 3 to play the Championship's two matches against Papua New Guinea.

Although, Nepal is scheduled to take on PNG on November 16 and 18, it will also play a two-day match against Hong Kong on November 5 and 6, a 50-over match against Pakistan on November 8 and a 50-over match against Oman on November 14.
