KATHMANDU, Dec 1 : Flight operations at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) will again be affected on Tuesday due to an ongoing calibration flight.
According to TIA Spokesperson Rinji Sherpa, Aerothai (Aeronautical Radio of Thailand) will conduct a calibration flight after 2 PM this afternoon.
“Aerothai had planned the calibration flight this morning but could not proceed due to fog. The flight is now scheduled for after 2 PM,” Sherpa said. “Because of the calibration flight, aircraft landings may face some disruptions.”

Aerothai also conducted a calibration flight on Monday, which caused significant disturbances in landing schedules.
“We had issued a NOTAM from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM for yesterday’s calibration flight. But the process wasn’t completed until 6 PM, which affected landings. However, not many aircraft had to hold,” Sherpa added.
What is a calibration flight?
A calibration flight is conducted to test whether the communication, navigation and surveillance equipment installed at the airport are functioning properly.
According to Sherpa, TIA carries out calibration flights every year as part of routine checks. Aerothai has arrived in Nepal for this scheduled inspection.
