CAAN hosting mega civil aviation conference from today

KATHMANDU, Aug 19: With the theme of “Harmonizing Efforts to Meet Capacity Constraints”, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) is organizing 56th Director Generals of Civil Aviation (DGCA) conference from Monday.

According to CAAN, the conference will be attended by director generals of Asia Pacific's aviation sector, chief of European Union regulatory body, representatives from regulatory bodies of countries like the US, Britain, and France. Representatives from aircraft manufacturers like Boeing and Airbus will also participate in the five-day conference that will be held at Soaltee Crowne Plaza in Kathmandu.

International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council President Dr Alumuyiwa Benard Aliu, directors of ICAO's different departments, Asia Pacific Regional Director Arun Mishra and other high delegates, among others, will participate in the conference, CAAN stated.

About 400 foreign participants including 291 representatives from 43 countries, 26 promoter organizations and other participants will take part in the conference.

According to CAAN, work plan on aviation safety, security, capacity, air navigation, economic development and air transport, aviation and environment, technical and regional cooperation and other contemporary issues related to aviation will be presented and discussed in the conference.

Nepal is hosting the conference for the third time, after 1978 and 1998. ICAO organizes the conference every year.

ICAO is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and had prepared a special flag for the occasion. The flag was taken to the peak of Mt Everest on May 23, 2019 as per the decision passed by the council of ministers of the organization.
