KATHMANDU, April 29: Yeti Airlines has inducted a new ATR 72-500 aircraft in its fleet.

The new carrier landed in Kathmandu on Friday. Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has given the aircraft 9N-ANC callsign.

According to the airline company, the aircraft will be airborne from May.

This is the fifth ATR aircraft in Yeti Airlines fleet. It operates flight to several domestic destinations like Pokhara, Biratnagar, Bhairahawa and Nepalgunj, among others.

The airlines company, which ranks second in terms of market share after Buddha Air, has said that it was hopeful of contributing to the government target of welcoming 2 million foreign visitors during Visit Nepal 2020 campaign.

The ATR72-500 is a twin-engine turboprop aircraft manufactured by the French-Italian consortium ATR.

“The ATR72-500 is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW127 engines and is equipped with Hamilton Sundstrand composite blade propellers. These high-tech engines and propellers ensure exceptional performance, fuel efficiency, remarkably low noise and low greenhouse gas emissions,” the company said in a press release.

Besides the ATR aircraft, Yeti Airlines operates a fleet of five BAE Systems Jetstream 41 aircraft. With its sister airliner, Tara Air, which has a fleet of two Dornier Do228s and four DHC6 Twin Otter aircraft, Yeti Airlines operates the widest network of flight routes in Nepal, according to the release.
