Businessmen in warpath following seizure of cargo truck over suspected revenue evasion in Nepalgunj

NEPALGUNJ, Dec 16: The Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI), Kohalpur, has seized the cargo truck that passed through the Nepalgunj Customs Office. The truck bearing Indian number HR 67B 1130 was seized by the DRI, Kohalpur on Friday evening.

NEPALGUNJ, Dec 16: The Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI), Kohalpur, has seized the cargo truck that passed through the Nepalgunj Customs Office. The truck bearing Indian number HR 67B 1130 was seized by the DRI, Kohalpur on Friday evening.


The incident triggered a tension between businessmen and security personnel in the New Road area of Nepalgunj for some time. A large number of industrialists and businessmen tried to stop it, but the security personnel finally took control of the truck and handed it over to the DRI, Kohalpur.

Shrawan Kumar Pokharel, Chief District Officer (CDO) of Banke, stated that the truck was taken into custody on suspicion of "revenue leakage." "Our action has been successful, and the truck has been handed over to DoRI Kohalpur," he said. CDO Pokharel mentioned that the results of the investigation into revenue leakage would be made public.


President of Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tanka Dhami said that it is a state terror to take a truck that has passed the customs check and take it back to the customs for check.


Dhami expressed concern over the truck that entered the depot after passing the check, He stated that if there are suspicions, it should be checked again within the depot premises and has accused the state of causing terror by conducting investigations and taking this matter into the DRI.


Dhami said, “If there is a case, not only businessmen but also inspection officers should be held accountable. The truck should be taken to the customs office for a recheck but this has been sent to DRI with the intention of causing terror among businessmen.” The cargo truck is reported to contain a large amount of clothes.
