KATHMANDU, Aug 26: A passenger bus traveling from Palungtar in Gorkha to Gosaikunda in Rasuwa was swept away by floodwaters in Rasuwa, leaving most of the passengers missing.
The bus, numbered Ga 2 Kha 1152, left Palungtar for Gosaikunda at around 2 a.m. on Wednesday. Preliminary information suggests that at least 40 people were on board.
Devotees throng Gosaikunda
According to police, the bus was swept away by a sudden flood while it was near Betrabati. Five passengers managed to jump from the bus and survive. One of the survivors, a woman, informed relatives in Gorkha about the incident, after which police were alerted.
The District Police Office in Gorkha said search and rescue efforts are underway for the missing bus and passengers.
Police have received a preliminary list of 35 passengers believed to have been on the bus. However, the actual number and identities of those on board are expected to become clearer as search and rescue operations continue.
