DOLPA, Aug 29: With the buddha idols and religious books disappearing day by day, smugglers have now been targeting monasteries of archeological importance in Upper Dolpa.


Dozen Buddha idols and religious books written thousands of years ago have been lost in the last four years.

Smugglers have been targeting She Gumba, Re Gumba, Mikhim Gumba, Gwankar Gumba of late. Many things of religious and archeological importance have been lost from these monasteries.


Dozens of buddha idols have been stolen in Upper Dolpa – a home to a large number of Buddhists.


According to police, four Buddha idols and one religious book had been lost from Dolpo Buddha rural municipality on April 10, 2016.


Similarly, seven Buddha idols  were stolen from a Chholing Gumba in Rigmo village of She-Foksundo rural municipality this year. These idols were 600 years old. Police are still clueless about it.
