BHOJPUR, Sept 30: Surya Prasad Rai of Sirdali, Tyamkemaiyum Rural Municipality-2 in Bhojpur, after serving 30 years in the British Army, has returned to his village and ventured into goat farming. Utilizing the skills and savings he earned abroad, he has established himself as a model entrepreneur in the community.
Despite having the opportunity to stay overseas, he said his love for Nepal inspired him to return and pursue goat farming. Motivated by a desire to serve the community, he has been running his commercial goat farming business since 2018. “I served in the British Army for nearly 30 years,” he said. “I could have continued living there, but I chose to return to my village and engage in commercial agriculture to set an example for society.”

He registered his farm under the name Amba Agricultural Goat Farm and is now professionally engaged in the business. Spread across more than 12 ropani of land, the farm currently houses Boer and local native goats. Rai said he gave up the citizenship offered by the British government to focus on this enterprise.
In addition to goats, he cultivates oranges, lemons, and rudraksha trees on his own land. While the pension he receives could comfortably sustain his livelihood, he said his primary goal is to contribute knowledge and service to society through his business.
The farm has become exemplary for the community, according to Purna Prasad Rai, ward chair of Annapurna, Tyamkemaiyum Rural Municipality–3. The local government also provides necessary support to farmers engaged in commercial goat and other agricultural businesses. Chair Rai noted that the administration offers advanced breed goats and technical assistance to further empower farmers involved in such enterprises.
