According to a press statement issued by US Embassy in Kathmandu, Ayers will hold meetings with political leaders, government officials, environmental activists and business leaders during her stay in Nepal. [break]
“She will discuss US support for the peace process and constitution drafting, the mitigation of the effects of climate change, ways to foster business investment, and will meet with populations marginalized by disability and poverty,” said the statement.
The visit of Ayers comes in the wake of whistle blower website WikiLeaks preparing to release 2,600 confidential diplomatic memos on Nepal in phase-wise manner in the next few months.
VP Jha in Lahan
LAHAN: Vice President Paramananda Jha arrived in Lahan on Thursday evening to inaugurate general convention of a non-government organization called Garib Ghar Samaj. Security in Lahan has been beefed up. Jha is staying at Hotel Bishal here. Eastern Regional Police Office chief Bhisma Prasain and Armed Police Force (APF) eastern regional chief Jiwan Thapa met Vice President Jha and apprised him of the overall security situation in the eastern region.
Training on forensic investigation
KATHMANDU: American Bar Association has been conducting four-day training on forensic investigation with a view to building capacity of investigators, prosecutors and human rights defenders. Experts from the US, Peru and Germany will impart technical skill and knowledge on legal aspects related to exhumations.
On Thursday, the participants performed a mock exhumation under the supervision of the experts. According to Dave Sadoff, Country Director of American Bar Association, the organization is also planning to conduct similar training for judges in the future.
