KATHMANDU, Oct 24: On the auspicious occasion of Bijaya Dashami, the annual Bramhayeni Jatra commenced at the Bramhayeni Temple in Bhaktapur, drawing a massive crowd of devotees from the early hours. This grand event is steeped in tradition, with the belief that Navadurga manifests at the Bramhayeni Temple on this sacred day, revered as a Shakti Peeth of Navadurga.

Devotees from Bhaktapur, Madhyapur Thimi, Tathali, Sudal, Bageshwari, Chitpol, Sipadol, Nangkhel, Gundu, Kavre, Lalitpur and Kathmandu come to worship at Bramhayeni Temple. Jamara, duck eggs, are offered and ducks, goats, chickens are also sacrificed at the temple along with various puja materials.

These days, there is a practice of people fasting from home to the temple in the morning, crawling, lying down and lighting five, seven and 18 lamps on their bodies, going from home to the temple and worshiping. There is a procession of people reaching the temple performing repeated full-body prostrations from their houses, while lighting lamps on their bodies and offering salutations to the deity. There is a popular belief that if you practice this form of obeisance, your wishes will be fulfilled and dharma will be attained. A grand fair is held at the temple today.
