Brahmayani, Maheshwori festivals conclude in Bhaktapur

BHAKTAPUR, April 16: The Brahmayani and Maheshwori festivals were observed in Bhaktapur Tuesday. The festivals follow the name of goddesses Brahmayani and Maheshwori who are worshiped as the most powerful deities among the Asta Matrika.



Asta Matrika is a group of eight Hindu goddesses who are always depicted together. [break]



The Brahmayani Festival began from Dhochhe (Devgriha) with the placing of an idol of the Brahmayani on a cot. The locals enthusiastically joined the festival.



Similarly, the festival of Maheshwori Goddess was observed at Inacho Tole. After the completion of the festival, the chariots of both goddesses were taken to the Dattatraya Chowk where established customary rituals were performed.



Meanwhile, the Chaitrastami, the famous religious festival of Baglung, has started in the premises of local Bhagawati Temple from Tuesday.



The festival is facilitated by the Kalika Bhagawati Guthi Management Committee and Ramrekha Community Forests Users´ Committee. Chief District Officer Mahadev Panth inaugurated the four-day festival.



The festival has been organised under the theme of "Destination Baglung Kalika-Exhibition of Art and Culture, Local Production and Promotion of Tourism".



The objective of the festival is to promote the local culture, tourism and products of the Dhaulagiri Zone, festival coordinator Raju Khadka said.
