“The situation is such that the genuine republicans have been sidelined and the fake ones are becoming dominant,” said Dr Bhattarai at a function organized to launch the biography of Ramraja Prasad Singh.
Dr Bhattarai said the Maoist party proposed Singh as the first president of the republic Nepal to honor his contribution to democracy and republican set-up, but the proposal could not be realized. “If there is one living person who deserves the highest state honor, it is Ramraja Prasad Singh,” said Dr Bhattarai.
The underground Nepal Janawadi Morcha party led by Singh had set off a series of explosions in 1986 when the country was ruled by the Panchayat system.

Launching the book, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal lauded Singh´s role and said he was the forerunner of the republican set-up in the country. Singh, 76, could not attend the function due to poor health.
