RUKUM, Sept 1: Traders in Rukum district are selling Sky R-UIM card of Nepal Telecom at the price three times higher than the price fixed by the state-owned telecom regulator.

NT officially charges Rs 1,135 for a Sky R-UIM card with prepaid connection. But traders are selling the same at as much as Rs 3,500 with the help of NT officials themselves. Officials are illegally selling R-UIM cards to traders to pocket extra income, according to the locals. [break]

Though the R-UIM card is easily accessible in the market at inflated price, customers, who applied for the R-UIM card about a year ago, have yet to receive the card through official channel.

“Traders are openly involved in the black market of Sky R-UIM card, but authorities concerned are doing nothing to control it,” the locals added.

The R-UIM cards distributed in the market have the number issued by NT offices in Kathmandu, Rukum, Nepalgunj and Dang.

“I have no idea about the black market of Sky R-UIM cards in the market. We will take necessary action if anyone is found involved in the foul play,” said Krishna Prasad Sharma, the chief of NT office in Rukum. He also denied involvement of NT officials in the illegal sale of Sky R-UIM cards.
