Bijayananda clinches Myanmar Ambassador's Cup Golf

KATHMANDU, Oct 15: Robin Raj Bijayananda clinched the title of Myanmar Ambassador´s Cup Golf Tournament held at the Royal Nepal Golf Club on Saturday.



Bijayananda scored 38 points to lift the title of the event played under stableford 7/8 handicap format. Bijayanada came ahead of Yogendra Kumar Rai, who garnered 37 points and Tashi Ghale bagged the best gross award with 32 points. [break]



Pushpa Rai lifted the women´s title with 33 points and Sumitra Dayananda finished as runner up with 30 points. Khadgajeet Baral won the octogenarian title with seven points, ahead of MP Keshavan.



Capt Manil Lal Thapa finished first in senior section with 35 points and Mani Prasad Rai stood second on count scoring 32 points. Singha Bahadur Basnet stood out among the diplomats with 30 points and Yong Hulan secured second position with 21 points. Gen Kiran Thapa and Lt Gen Gaurav Rana took two top spots respectively in the guest section.



Indra Lamichhane won the most birdies award. Tashi Ghale and Sumed Bhattarai took home the longest drive award on Hole No 11 and closest to the pin on Hole No 12 respectively. Verena Grafin Von Roeder won the best sportsmanship award.



Altogether 81 golfers, including seven diplomats and four women took part in the two-day event. Myanmar Ambassador to Nepal U Thet Oo, WHO residential representative Dr Lin Aung, RNGC President Prachanda Bahadur Sherstha and Vice-captain Tashi Ghale, among others, distributed prizes to the winners.









Kollmair triumphs



Michael Kollmair won the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal played at the Gokarna Golf Club on Saturday. Kollmair scored two-under 70 and came ahead of Norbu Sherpa, who scored even-par 72. Tendi Sherpa came third with two-over 74. A total of 21 golfers took part in the monthly event. Captain of Gokarna Golf Club Joseph Nathan gave away the prizes to the winners. The 11th and penultimate tournament of the year will be held on November 5.



NGA distributes golf kits



Nepal Golf Association (NGA) on Saturday distributed the golf kits to the Himalayan Golf Club, Pokhara and Nirvana Country Club Health and Golf Resort, Dharan. The kits include green and fairway mowers. NGA General Secretary Tashi Ghale gave away three fairway gang mower and a green mower along with four junior golf sets and 500 range balls each to the two clubs. According to Ghale, the Royal & Ancient (R&A), the apex body of golf, had provided the machines to the NGA to be distributed to the clubs.



Malla bags title



Prithvi Malla claimed the Junior Golf Tournament here at the Royal Nepal Golf Club (RNGC) on Saturday. Malla scored 23 points in the nine-hole tournament held after three-month training under the Youth Golf Development Program jointly organized by Nepal Golf Association and Himalayan Youth Golf Association. Tenzing Tsering came second with 22 points and Rishav Raj Acharya finished third with 21 points. The team comprising of Dirghayu Thapa Magar, Om Chaudhary, Ashish Thapa and Somya Acharya won the scramble team tournament. Sunal Kafle won the chipping contest with four points. Altogether 66 junior golfers took part in the competition.
