Juddhodaya thumped Sudesha High School 7-0 as Manisha Jirel completed a hat-trick and Anita Tamang scored a brace.
Ganga Tamang and Samjhana Lama also added a goal each for Juddhodaya. Similarly, Apple Academy defeated Rupak Memorial School 4-0 with a hat-trick from Krishna Kumari Karki. Elina Shah was also on the scoresheet. [break]
Thapa, Sunuwar to compete in India Junior Open
KATHMANDU: National squash champion Amrit Thapa and Akash Sunuwar are set to compete in the Fifth India Junior Open Squash Championship to be held in Chennai, India from August 27 to 31. Thapa will compete in the U-17 age group of the tournament while Sunuwar will compete in the U-13 age group. Nepal Squash Rackets Association General Secretary Suresh Kumar Gurung will accompany the athletes as team coach and official.
The three-member Nepali team is scheduled to leave Kathmandu on Monday. National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama bade farewell to the team amidst a function on Sunday.
Swimmers off to Dubai
KATHMANDU: A four-member Nepali swimming team, including three swimmers, left Kathmandu on Sunday to participate in the 14th FINA World Junior Swimming Championship to be held in Dubai from Monday to Saturday. Miraj Prajapati will represent Nepal in boys" 50m and 100m freestyle while Sofia Shah will compete in girls" 50m and 100m freestyle.
Likewise, Aditi Dhital will compete in girls" 200m freestyle. Nepal Swimming Association member Ratna Maharjan will lead the Nepali team to Dubai. According to NSA President Ashok Bajracharya, Shirish Gurung, who holds six national records, withdrew from the championship as his school did not grant him leave.
3 bodybuilders for Asian c"ship
KATHMANDU: Nepali bodybuilders Ram Bahadur Dahal, Sanjeev Kumar Shrestha and Rameshwar Maharjan are set to participate in the Asian Bodybuilding Championship to be held in Vietnam from August 27 to September 2.
Dahal will compete in men"s 60kg weight category while Shrestha will take part in men"s 65kg weight category. Similarly, Maharjan will compete in men"s 65kg weight category. Nepal Bodybuilding Association member Mohan Krishna Shrestha is the team manager while Bijay Lal Kayastha has been nominated as a judge for the event. The Nepali team will leave Kathmandu on Monday.
