Shivakoti, Pokharel champions
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Bikash Shivakoti and Lavahari Pokharel emerged champions on Saturday in the combat event of Second Jeet Kune Do Martial Arts held at the semi-covered hall of Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar. Shivakoti of Central Dojo defeated Suren Ghale of Samakhusi Dojo in the final of men"s 56 kg weight category. Suresh Lama of Nuwakot finished third in the event competed by total of eight players. Likewise, Pokharel of Sarlahi defeated Suman Gurung of Lalitpur in the title clash of men"s below-55 kg category. Altogether 19 players had competed in the weight category.
Gaiju wins chess tourney
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Damodar Gaiju secured first position on Saturday in the Keshav Narayan Tamrakar Memorial Blitz Chess Tournament held in the capital. Gaiju accumulated a total of six points in the seven-round tournament held in Swiss League format. Veteran Ganeshman Duwal and Rajaram Duwal secured second position in tie-breaker after they finished level on 5.5 points each. Bikam Jati took the fourth position while Purushottam Duwal finished fifth. Gopal Shilpakar won the unrated title with five points in his kitty. The one-day tournament was organized in the memory of late Keshav Narayan Tamrakar, the founder and president of Bhaktapur Chess Team and a tourism entrepreneur.
