Big parties recommend their candidates as election near

KATHMANDU, April 18: With the election now just 27 days away, district chapters of big political parties have started recommending names of their potential candidates for the final selection. In some local units of the country, the parties have already finalized their candidates.

KATHMANDU, April 18: With the election now just 27 days away, district chapters of big political parties have started recommending names of their potential candidates for the final selection. In some local units of the country, the parties have already finalized their candidates.



The election fever has started gripping the country. Discussions about possible candidates have become the hot topic in most of the local units of various districts. 



The ruling CPN (Maoist-Centre) has recommend few names for the post of mayor and deputy mayor in Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City of Banke district. 



According to IP Kharel, district coordinator of Banke chapter of Maoist-Centre, party leaders Ahatar Husain Faruki, Damodar Acharya and Nabin Sharma have been recommended as mayoral candidates while Parwati Pun 'Usha', Shila Shrestha and Sabanam Ansari have been recommended for the post of deputy mayor.



Likewise, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has nominated the party's General Secretary Dr Dhabal Shumsher Rana for the post of Nepalgunj's mayor although it has not been officially announced, according to the party sources. On the other hand, Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML are in the process of electing their candidates there. Tough battle among big parties in the upcoming elections is expected as the highly contested sub-metropolitan city is considered as a very important stronghold.



Dr Suresh Kumar Kanodiya, Surendra Hamal and Nijamuddin Siddhi are tipped as potential mayoral candidates from the NC. Meanwhile, UML said it has called for a meeting on Wednesday to finalize the party's candidates, informed the party's District Chairman Ashok Koirala. 



In Dharan Metropolitan City of Sunsari district, Maoist-Centre has recommended Ayendra Bikram Begha as their mayoral candidate, while they have recommended four female candidates for the post of deputy mayor after failing to reach consensus regarding a single candidate, informed party's Municipal Coordinator Phokwahang Subba. 



The recommended candidates for the post of deputy mayor are Kamala Adhikari, Kamala Rai, Laxmi Pradhan and Ganga Baral Paudel. According to sources close to the party, Adhikari has the highest chance of winning the candidacy.



Mukshahang Menbo, the party's politburo member and coordinator of Election Mobilization Committee, informed that the party will finalize the names of their candidates in all part of the country by April 22.

Parties are busy finalizing their candidates in Khotang district as well. The local units of the district are bound to witness fierce completion among NC, UML and Maoist-Centre. Although the parties are yet to announce their candidates for mayor and deputy mayor, candidacies for rural municipalities and wards have already been declared. The district has two municipalities and eight rural municipalities.



District chapters of big parties in Khotang are busy assessing their aspiring candidates so that they can pick the best candidate. The district has eight local units - two municipalities and eight rural municipalities.
