Election deposits of nine candidates, including one from UML, confiscated in Kailali-1

TIKAPUR, Nov 30: The election deposits of nine candidates for the House of Representatives in the election held on November 20 have been confiscated in Kailali-1. According to the district election office, the deposits made by nine candidates were confiscated as per the legal provision to confiscate the security deposits of candidates who get less than 10 percent of the total valid votes.

TIKAPUR, Nov 30: The election deposits of nine candidates for the House of Representatives in the election held on November 20 have been confiscated in Kailali-1. According to the district election office, the deposits made by nine candidates were confiscated as per the legal provision to confiscate the security deposits of candidates who get less than 10 percent of the total valid votes.


CPN-UML candidate Tapendra Bahadur Rawal is among those whose election deposit has been confiscated. He could not get 10 percent of the total valid votes. He got only 5,910 votes, which is less than 10 percent of the total valid votes.


According to the election officer's office, out of 1,06,703 voters, 64,164 voted. Out of which 60,878 votes were declared valid and 3,286 votes invalid. Any candidate needed to get at least 6,087 votes to save their security deposit.

RPP's Lokendra Kunwar is among those whose deposit will be forfeited. He has received 3,648 votes. Similarly, Tanka Prasad Jaishi Dhungana of Rastriya Swatantra Party who got 1,869 votes could not save his deposit.


Six other candidates lost their security deposits and could not get even 1000 votes. Independent candidate Lalit Bahadur Thapa (363 votes), another independent candidate Vijay Raj Singh Mayal (230 votes), Bhoj Bahadur Bishwakarma of the Federal Democratic National Forum (122 votes), Dhan Bahadur Magar of the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (107 votes), and Nepal ka lagi Nepali party candidate were among those who could not get 1,000 votes. Man Bahadur Chaudhary (90 votes) and Tilak Bahadur Shahi (54 votes) are from the party.


Only Ram Janam Chaudhary, who is a central member of the Nepali Congress, and  who was a candidate from the Democratic-Left Alliance, secured his election deposit. He, who is the first runner up in the electoral race received 18,081 votes.


Ranjita Shrestha, the central president of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, won from this constituency with 30,404 votes.
