KATHMANDU, March 22: Nepal Bibeksheel Party has said that there is a suspicion of a 'transaction' in exchange of the support to the government in the passport fraud case of Rabi Lamichhane, president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party.

The party in a statement on Tuesday questioned the Attorney General's decision not to prosecute Lamichhane on the passport fraud case. "The decision of the Attorney General's office not to prosecute the complaint of obtaining a Nepali passport by giving false information while still possessing a foreign passport exactly on the same day of the Prime Minister taking the vote of confidence in parliament and the party also giving the government a vote of confidence has raised suspicions that there has been a transaction in the case," said a statement issued by spokesperson Bijay Babu Shiwakoti. .

It is mentioned in the statement that the decision of the Supreme Court's Constitutional Court on January 27, 2023 indicated that other agencies are investigating the case of Lamichhane's passport and that the process may proceed in a judicial manner. It has been said that the government's decision does not seem to be appropriate even from a judicial point of view and does not seem to respect the principle that everyone is equal before the law.

Nepal Bibeksheel Party has urged the government bodies concerned to truthfully conduct the judicial review so that the reputation of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, its president Lamichhane and the government will remain intact in the eyes of the citizens.
