Lal Bahadur Rana, a worker at the Gaindakot-based mill, said their problems were compounding as the management is not doing anything to provide salary despite their repeated pleas.[break]
“The management has told us that it would release salary of two months, but it is doing nothing in this direction,” said Modraj Devkota, another employee.
Employees suspect the management was trying to shut the factory, as it has not brought necessary raw materials. They fear that the management was trying to shut the factory and develop residential plots.
“It would be difficult to operate the factory in lean season if necessary raw materials aren´t procured now,” said Ishwor Neupane, a leader of workers´ union.
“The factory should have acquired hundreds of tons of raw materials by now.”
Another worker Basu Dev Chaulagain lamented that the problems had not been addressed despite the employees informing concerned government agencies, including the Prime Minister´s Office and the Finance Ministry, about their woes.
Workers say frequent closure of factory operations was hitting them hard. The factory currently employs 552 workers.
Golchha Organization had purchased the factory from the government at Rs 150 million 18 years ago. The factory has the capacity to meet 80 percent of the domestic demand.
