KATHMANDU, Sept 13: Bagmati Province Chief Minister Kiran Thapa Magar has said the provincial government will arrange resettlement for people who lost their homes in the Bhotekoshi flood in Rasuwa.
Speaking at an interaction with journalists from Bhaktapur in Suryabinayak on Saturday, Chief Minister Thapa Magar said new settlements would be developed in safe locations to resettle flood-affected families.
He said settlements should not be rebuilt along the banks of the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers. As riverbank areas remain at risk, the provincial government is preparing a long-term plan to develop settlements in safer locations for those who lost their homes, he said.

According to Thapa Magar, local governments will provide land while the provincial government will build the settlements. He said Bidur Municipality has agreed to provide land for flood victims in Nuwakot, while land is still being sought for affected families in Rasuwa.
The Bagmati provincial government has given top priority to building permanent homes for people affected by floods and other disasters, Thapa Magar said. Along with immediate relief, the government is focused on relocating affected families to safer areas on a long-term basis, he said.
He also said preparations were under way to provide employment to Bhotekoshi flood victims in coordination with the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry and industrialists. Discussions and initiatives for the programme have already begun, he said.
The provincial government has also decided to provide free education up to Grade 12 to children from affected areas and take responsibility for their housing, according to Thapa Magar. He said the necessary procedures had already been initiated.
