Book lovers have an interesting relationship with the Internet. Though many of us like to hold (and sometimes smell) a book rather than read on a tablet or kindle, and prefer to go to a bookstore than order online, there is no denying that the literary world occupies quite a large space on the web. Readers, writers, editors, publishers, and pretty much everybody are always talking, tweeting, and blogging about their favorite books and authors.

And we all know how fun and insightful it's to find out other book enthusiasts take on our favorite titles and writers. But then there are just so many good blogs and websites out there that it's hard to decide which ones are worthy of your time. So, The Week has narrowed it down for you. Here is a list of 12 amazing blogs to follow religiously.

The Millions

Ten years is a long time in terms of Internet life, but that's how long The Millions has been kicking out a steady stream of reviews, essays, and links. That is what has made it the Internet's number one literary institution. The Millions provides intelligent and thoughtful reviews of books and culture, making it one of the premier book review blogs on the Internet. With an archive that dates back to its founding in 2003, the site has something to pique every reader's interest.

Page-Turner

Obviously being The New Yorker's book blog comes with its perks, and Page-Turner takes full advantage of its captive audience by posting everything from the fantastic monthly podcast to a daily news roundup, great essays like Casey N. Cep's "A Murder in Deep Summer" and Jon Michaud's piece on why Frank Herbert's Dune endures. You can't really go wrong with what Page-Turner publishes. You'll just fall in love with the content.

Omnivoracious

Great blog name aside, Omnivoracious is Amazon's official (and must-read) book review blog. With a minimalist and eye-catching design that focuses on books, author interviews, and industry news, this is one book blog that keeps its readers up to date on all aspects of the publishing world. Unlike other, genre-specific blogs, Omnivoracious reviews titles ranging from kids' books and comics to lifestyle and suspense, and everything in between.

The New York Review of Books

With a list of contributors that reads like a who's who of the literature and journalistic worlds, The New York Review of Books is the intellectual's book review blog. Filled with literature reviews, intriguing think pieces, and intelligent cultural articles, this blog both informs and inspires. If there is one book blog on this list that you shouldn't miss out on, then it's definitely this.

The Write Practice

The one-stop shop for writer resources, The Write Practice enjoys a huge readership, and for good reason. This blog is serious about providing writers at all skill levels with tutorials, resources, and articles designed to hone your writing and find your voice. It doesn't matter what type of material or in what format you prefer to write; the information on this blog has you covered. This blog is great for writing practices if you are serious about writing professionally or have an idea for a story or novel.

Largehearted Boy

What better than books and music? David Gutowski's site is a source for daily book and music news, but the real draw is the wonderful Book Notes series, where authors discuss the music that played in the background as they wrote their books. This is one site that will suck you in. So be warned: Don't check it out while at work. You'll be hooked.

The Nervous Breakdown

There's plenty to read on this great lit website, but a highlight is the Self-Interviews series, in which authors ask themselves the tough questions other interviewers are afraid to pose. This online cultural magazine and literary community has a wide range of contributors who come up with interesting concepts and stories. How can you not read a piece that begins like this: "This story, I swear, has a happy ending."

Blog of a Bookslut

Bookslut is famous among book blogs, and one of the most popular in the world of online book news and reviews. Bookslut has received mentions in many national and international newspapers, including the New York Times Book Review and Washington Post. If you don't know where to begin your online reading journey, we recommend that you start here.

Book Addiction

Heather, a book addict from Chicago, keeps track of her reading conquests, shares her opinions of recent releases, and develops a list of recommendations on this blog. It's always fun to read about another reader's perspectives and opinions on books and writers and with Heather you can't go wrong because even if you disagree with her opinions you can't help but understand where she's coming from.

Book Riot

The site's tag – "All Books, Never Boring" – is an apt summation of this sometimes-quirky website that tries to make talking about books fun, and a little more inclusive to non-snobs than most outlets that discuss literature. Book Riot operates on the principle that being a reader is about loving books but it's also about a lot more than books. So there's much to keep you engaged here. The podcasts deserve a special mention.

Seven Impossible Things Before Breakfast

While not following the traditional book review format, this blog gives the low-down on authors, illustrators, and the books themselves from this genre. The founder described this as a sort of literary salon where authors and illustrators stop by, after getting a cup of cyber-coffee, to share their craft, and where illustrators wake us up with art. And might we add that the illustrations are simply amazing.
