MYAGDI, July 25: Landslide prevention works have begun near the Baisari Andheri rivulet along the border of Raghu Ganga Rural Municipality-2 and 3 in Myagdi district after the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road section of the national pride project, Kaligandaki Corridor, started getting obstructed on a daily basis.

Workers have begun clearing the landslide debris on the road, and, to prevent further landslides, the 'rock anchoring' technology has been used on the Baisari road under the Beni-Jomsom road connecting Mustang with the national highway through the northern region of Myagdi.

Sub-engineer of the Beni-Jomsom-Korala Road Project, Sohan Jung Karki, said that the landslide prevention work has begun by drilling the hills above the road.

For rock anchoring, 30 meters of 'drilling' is being done and rods are being placed. Sub-engineer Karki said that a landslide prevention structure is being built by constructing a wall on the hill.

The Kaligandaki Corridor Project has been marred by landslides at more than 50 places along the Myagdi section, flooding from tributaries and erosion caused by the Kali Gandaki River. Residents of Raghuganga, Annapurna Rural Municipality of Myagdi, and Mustang, as well as tourists and pilgrims, have been facing difficulties in commuting as the Beni-Jomsom road has been obstructed due to landslides at Baisari and other places.
