Before 'Laal Singh Chaddha', 5 Aamir Khan movies that were Hollywood remakes

Aamir Khan’s upcoming film, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is undoubtedly one of the most awaited films of the year. The film is an official Hindi remake of the Hollywood film, ‘Forrest Gump’ that originally starred Tom Hanks. However, this is not the first time Aamir has starred in a film that is a remake of some international movie. Here’s a look at FIVE popular Aamir Khan movies that were Hollywood remakes.

‘Dhoom 3’
The makers of the popular ‘Dhoom’ franchise roped in ‘Mr Perfectionist’, Aamir Khan for the third instalment of the movie. The film reportedly took inspiration from Christopher Nolan’s 2006 film, ‘The Prestige’. Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, the movie also starred Katrina Kaif in the lead role, apart from the original cast of Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra. The film failed to create the magic that its previous parts did. It also tanked at the box-office.

‘Ghajini’
Aamir Khan starrer ‘Ghajini’ remains one of his most memorable characters. It was a remake of a Tamil film of the same name which was highly inspired by Christopher Nolan’s 2000 film ‘Memento’. The Hollywood director had reacted to the remake and said that he had heard it was very successful and that people liked it. Nolan also added he is honoured and that he will watch it at some point.

‘Mann’
The Indra Kumar directorial, ‘Mann’ starring Aamir Khan and Manisha Koirala was heavily inspired by the 1957 Hollywood film, ‘An Affair To Remember’. However, it was improvised with a climax scene different from the original movie. While the original movie starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr, ended vaguely, ‘Mann’ gave a lot more back story to the characters.

‘Ghulam’
Aamir Khan’s ‘Ghulam’ is still one of the most talked-about movies of the actor. The Vikram Bhatt directorial was actually a remake of Mahesh Bhatt’s 1988 film, ‘Kabzaa’ starring Sanjay Dutt, which in turn was a copy of 1954 movie, ‘On the Waterfront’. The original movie starred Marlon Brando in the lead role. ‘Ghulam’ also starred Rani Mukerji and Sharat Saxena in key roles.

‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke’
Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke’ is highly inspired by the1958 Hollywood film, ‘House Boat’. The film starred Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla in lead roles. It also featured Kunal Kemmu as a child actor. Aamir also reportedly co-wrote the screenplay of the movie with the director. The film received positive reviews from the audience and the critics alike. It also bagged a lot of awards.
