KATHMANDU, Jan 7: The structure constructed for running a restaurant on the Narayanhiti Palace Museum premises is being demolished.

Dipesh Bajracharya, an employee of the museum, said that the wall of the restaurant complex was demolished after the government formed a probe committee to carry out an investigation into the decision taken by the erstwhile government to grant permission to Batas Group to build illegal infrastructure including a restaurant inside the Narayanhiti Palace Museum.

The government formed an investigation committee yesterday after the issue of leasing 10 ropanis of land to the Batas group was dragged into the controversy.

On Thursday, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Prem Bahadur Ale said that the process of removing Batas Group from the Narayanhiti Palace Museum will be taken forward. “The whole environment of the museum can be ruined if the people who take the museum on lease change with a change in the people in power. Thus, we will remove the group either from the ministerial decision or through the Cabinet,” said Ale.

An investigation committee has been formed under the direction of Tourism Minister Prem Bahadur Ale under the coordination of Home Ministry Joint Secretary Hom Prasad Luintel.
