Industries, business houses, shops, educational institutions, transport services and bazaars were completely shut down due to the banda. The protesters held demonstrations in several parts of the region. Saying that federalism will disintegrate the country, the chairman of Janamorcha-affiliated All Nepal Peasants´ Organization Giridharilal Nyaupane called on all people to rise against federalism.
Addressing a corner meeting in Butwal, Nyaupane said decentralized system of governance with local autonomy will be suitable for Nepal.
Police said no untoward incident has been reported during the banda even though security had been tightened in view of the shutdown.
