KATHMANDU, March 10: The Election Commission (EC) has explained the reasons behind its decision to choose green ballot papers for the local level elections. Organizing a press conference on Thursday, the EC said that the green color has been selected for the purpose of facilitating the counting of votes.
On the occasion, the EC asserted that it was ready to clarify any questions if anyone had any doubts regarding the color of the ballot papers.
Ballot papers printed for 36 districts
According to EC Spokesperson Saligram Sharma Poudel, the commission has tried to use different colors of ballot papers for the upcoming elections as the blue ballot paper used in the 2017 election and the ink used in the stamp are both blue.
The EC justified its actions on selecting green ballot papers after the CPN-UML Chairman accused the Nepali Congress of trying to manipulate the voters in the election by using the color green for the ballot papers.
