Bajracharya, Bista win titles

KATHMANDU, April 5: Samyak Bhushan Bajracharya and Abhilasha Bista clinched the titles of Kesha Group-JTI Junior Tennis Tournament in their respective age groups on Friday.



Bajracharya registered a hard-fought 9-8 win over Adit Subedi in the U-10 boys´ singles final held at the Satdobato Tennis Complex, Lalitpur. Sulav Dhital and Utsav Thapa finished joint third in the event.[break]



In the U-10 girls´ singles final, Bista eased past Saloni Tamang 8-3 to lift the title. Ashiyana Prasain and Saisa Joshi both secured the third position.



Meanwhile, Ranav Singh clinched the U-8 boys´ singles title defeating Aki Juben Rawat 10-8, 10-8 in the final. Aditya Maharjan and Samten Baidya settled for the third position.



In the girls´ section of the same age group, Aja Regmi edged out Manavi Shah 19-8, 10-8 in the final.



Meanwhile, Mayanka Rana toiled hard to defeat Bijisha Shrestha 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 to set up a U-14 girls´ singles title clash with Bibhuti Karki, who ousted Rana´s twin sister Mahika in three sets in the other semifinal.



Mahika won the first set but Bibhuti recovered to seal the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 and spoil the Rana sisters´ party.



Siblings Anne Mathema and Cathy Mathema also had a similar fate as Anne made it to the final of U-12 girls´ singles while her younger sister Cathy crashed out of the tournament. Anne edged out Karuna Gauchan 7-6, 6-2 to secure a place in the final while Cathy lost her semifinal match 4-6, 4-6 to Ira Rawat.



Saksham Karki made it to the final of U-14 boys´ singles where he will meet Samrakshak Bhushan Bajracharya. Karki defeated Anjan Thing 6-4, 6-2 en route to the final while Bajracharya ousted Renjen Lama 6-1, 6-4 in another semifinal.



Bajracharya also advanced to the final of U-12 boys´ singles along with Pranav Khanal. Bajracharya beat Renjen Lama 6-3, 6-3 while Khanal saw off Samyak Bhushan Bajracharya 6-0, 7-6 in the semifinals.



Meanwhile, Avash Malla reached the final of U-16 boys´ singles after his opponent Abhaya Gauchan retired hurt in the third set. Malla had won the first set 6-4 but Gauchan took the second set 7-5. Gauchan was on the verge of victory as he was leading the third and final set 5-2 but he quit the game after sustaining an injury.



In another semifinal, Saksham Karki hammered Abhishek Bista 6-0, 6-1 to storm into the final.
