Chairman Dahal had floated the concept of a national unity government in his political document presented at the ongoing politburo meeting that began in Kathmandu on Tuesday.“
"To float the concept of a national unity government again is to form another puppet government; it is nothing short of a surrender to regressive forces", a politburo member quoted Baidya as saying.
In his political document, Dahal opined that it would be in the best interests of the party to continue with protests in the streets and in parliament and push for a national unity government in two or three months´ time.
Three senior Maoist leaders, Narayankaji Shrestha, Mohan Baidya and Dr Baburam Bhattarai, commented on Dahal´s political paper on Saturday. The meeting was postponed for Monday. Party insiders say the meeting was postponed to persuade Baidya not to present a separate paper. According to one party leader, the hard-line camp of the party led by Baidya will put forth their points forcefully at the meeting, if not present a separate paper altogether.
The so-called hard-liners have argued that the party should go for a "people´s revolt" as the party´s strategy for capturing state power while the party establishment has stated that it would be better to take the current peace process to its logical conclusion and consolidate the achievements the party has made so far.
After Dahal presented his paper on Tuesday, the hardliners had met at Thapagaun in Kathmandu to chalk out their strategy, party sources said. They have argued that the ground is now ready for the Maoist party to capture state power through a "people´s revolt".
