"An election is an internal political matter while an army is there for saving national sovereignty. But the government and the four parties are trying to deploy the army on the pretext of security during the polls. We urge them not to take such an anti-national step," said Dev Gurung, CPN-Maoist secretary and chief of the alliance taskforce, at a press meet held at the party head office. He claimed that the government was going to deploy the army under incitement from the four major parties. However, the government and the four major parties have not made public any formal decision on whether or not to deploy the army.
Similarly, the alliance also demanded that how and why Indian security personnel entered Nepal on the pretext of arresting two Indian nationals should be made public. The alliance argued that that was against Nepal´s sovereignty. The alliance also urged India not to intrude in Nepal on the pretext of arresting some criminals.
"The silence on the part of the government over the issue of arrests made by Indian security personnel on Nepali territory had made matters more mysterious," added Gurung.
Issuing a press statement, the alliance demanded that the government take firm steps against interference by India and make the incident public.
The alliance claimed that India has distributed in Nepal bird flu medicine manufactured by an Indian company and poultry food to destroy the Nepali poultry industry.
"We demand an investigation and public disclosure of the findings. We demand action against the guilty and compensation for the poultry farmers," reads the statement.
Similarly, the alliance rescheduled its general strike in the Valley for September 12 as the SAFF Championship games final was scheduled for the 11th.
